Oral Medicine is a speciality of dentistry that is concerned with oral health care, diagnosis and medical management of patients with complex medical disorders involving the oral mucosa, Salivary glands, Orofacial pain and Temporomandibular disorders. Oral Medicine specialists are concerned with nonsurgical medical aspects of dentistry. The practice of oral medicine provides optimal health to all people through the diagnosis and management of oral diseases.

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data produced by all modalities of radiant energy that are used for the diagnosis and management of diseases and conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region.

The Undergraduate and Postgraduate students acquire skill of taking and interpretating various oral and skull radiographs, as well as other advanced imaging techniques that help them in making a definitive diagnosis. They achieve the necessary training to diagnose and treat patients under the supervision of academically and clinically competent faculty members. The Dept of Oral Medicine and radiology at the Oxford dental college is an academic centre in which education, research and patient care occurs simultaneously –each informing and improving other. The Department is also a recognized centre for post doctoral studies. (PhD programme).

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The department has a daily input of an average of 450 new patients. The students are exposed to an environment where they obtain both theoretical and practical knowledge under the supervision of well qualified and efficient teaching faculty. The faculty and students are actively involved in research activities .The department has more than 200 international and national publications to its credit.


The scientific presentations from the department have been recognized and appreciated in various scientific meets. The Academic excellence of the students is reflected in several university ranks.
