Department of Computer Science and Engineering
Since its inception in 2000, The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is committed to provide a supportive, friendly and challenging environment for teaching and learning. The department started with the intake of 90 students, and increased to 120 from the academic year 2008-2009. At present the department offers BE and M.Tech Degree programme in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). The department is accredited by the National board of Accreditation in the year 2007.
Mission
The mission of the department is to provide an educational experience that inspires students to reach for the highest levels of intellectual attainment and personal growth, and thereby to produce high quality professionals, who would excel in various facets of software industry.
Infrastructure
Laboratories - The department provides high end infrastructure. The CS-I lab, with the carpet area of 200 sq.m, is equipped with Oracle server and Web sphere server along with 60 highly configured P4 IBM clients(1GB RAM, 80 GB hard disk), and 3 printers. The Computer Graphics laboratory, Network Laboratory and the Database Applications Laboratory are conducted in the CS-I laboratory. The CS-II Lab, with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Linux Red Hat Server along with its 60 P4 IBM clients(1GB RAM, 80 GB Hard disk) and printers, is utilized for handling Data Structures Laboratory, Compiler Design Laboratory, Java & CG Laboratory and Object Oriented Programming Laboratory. The CS-III Lab , with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Linux Red Hat Server along with its 60 P4 IBM clients(1GB RAM, 80 GB Hard disk) and printers, is utilized for Final year Projects & First year CCP Lab .To enhance the professional knowledge of the staff members and students, we have well facilitated internet lab with 4Mbps dedicated line from Reliance, providing unlimited internet access. This enables them to download valuable notes of lessons and to refer study materials. The international e-journals from the websites of ACM and IEEE can also be accessed.
Department Library – The department has a knowledge repository of its own with 350 books (apart from the central library of the engineering college), seminar and project reports, exhaustive question bank and lab manuals. The university sponsored Edusat and E-Vidhya courses allow students and faculties to access huge volumes of digital course material, as per their convenience and need from the digital library.
Our Unique Teaching - Learning Process
- Teaching for the entire semester for a subject is planned meticulously and implemented using lesson plan and faculty work diaries.
- Internal Assessment examinations are taken apart from regular class tests to monitor the student progression regularly.
- Subject wise assignments and real time case studies/projects are given to the students for enhancing their knowledge base under the guidance of faculties.
- Regular tutorial classes are being held for comparatively weak students.
- Student mentoring is done for the needed candidates for their betterment.
- Student seminars are conducted periodically in each class on different subjects especially on upcoming/new technology, which improves their knowledge as well as their presentation skills.
- Industry-Institute interaction is given utmost importance in the department. Apart from the regular student seminars, periodical guest lectures are organized with professionals from the industry which increases students awareness of industrial happenings.
- In order to mould the students into technically valuable computer professionals, the students are involved in conducting and participating technical and non technical activities through the Computer Science and Engineering Students club named as “SWAP”. Special workshops, seminars and events are conducted for the students through the CSI(Computer Society of India) Student Chapter and SWAP.
- Soft skill training programmes are conducted during the prefinal year , which equips the students with the most wanted soft-skills for placement.
- To make the students more confident in interviews, technical training is being provided to final year students by trained professionals.
- In the growth dilemma of IT Industry, to make the students survive with success in all challenges, the students are being encouraged to improve their technical skills by several add-on courses such as certification programmes in Oracle, CISCO & JAVA. The College has a MOU with Oracle Corporation and has been approved as a Technical partner to conduct Oracle Certified Programmes.
Faculty Development Activities
The faculties are encouraged to attend conferences, workshops, short-term courses to upgrade their skills & knowledge inside or outside the college. The department has organized national level conference (NCEOT - 2010) on “Emerging Trends of Optimization Techniques”, in which engineering college faculty were highly motivated to publish papers and participate in the panel discussions on Grid & Cloud Computing.
Once in every six months under the train the trainer scheme, special workshops are held to update the faculty with latest technology.
A dedicated team of highly qualified staff members and skilled lab instructors led by highly motivated and enthusiastic Departmental Head, Dr. R. J. Anandhi, is the real strength of the department. The University results and the improvement in our placement division have proven the unprecedented growth of the department.
