Department of Computer Application (MCA)

The Department of MCA, which was started in the academic year 2001-02, has excellent infrastructure in terms of digital classrooms, a dedicated MCA Library and a centrally air- conditioned & networked computer laboratory.Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a 3 Year Post-Graduate,2 Year-Lateral Entry and MCA 2nd Year Direct Programmes affiliated to Vishveshwaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, Karnataka, India and approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

The objective of this program is to produce IT professionals who is excel in the field of computer applications development and are sought after by different sectors of industry, business, government, etc. VTU has approved lateral entry for Two-Year MCA Program from academic year 2015-16.The network is supported by various state of art servers, such as Web, Mail, DNS etc.Seminars, Contests, Short-term courses and continuous Education Programs are conducted regularly for students and staff. It offers a thorough living and learning experience through its, spacious class rooms, scintillating air conditioned computer labs, latest pedagogy, Wi-Fi ambience, learned staff, voluminous library, soft skills lab, separate hostels for girls and boys,hygienic canteens, banking facility etc.

Undoubtedly every single stake holder appears to be proud and contended here. The class room lectures are enriched by special talks on subjects of topical interest by experts in the IT industry, R&D establishments and academic institutions of repute. The corporate standard of the computer laboratory has to be seen to be believed.Every student gets a computer to himself/herself in the Lab. In addition to the academic and curricular activities, the students of this department are encouraged to actively participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The department conducts a national level inter-college festival - OXYTECH, which provides a platform to our students to interact with students of other colleges.TOCE also has a vibrant Industry Institute Interaction Cell, and a full fledged Training and Placement Cell. Regular mock interviews, training programs, group discussion with special emphasis on soft skills is provided to the students. Our alumni are found in several blue chip organizations in India and abroad. Students picked, polished and placed by us are accepted hand in hand by leading organizations.Many reputed companies have been visiting the institution for Campus Recruitment. we have been gettinh 100% pass results with most of our students getting decorated with First Class with Distinction. In addition, they are bringing laurels to the Department by bagging University ranks.

The Academic year 2014-15 was a momentous and unforgettable year for the department. I am delighted to share that VTU has approved Lateral entry for 2-year MCA program from the academic year 2015-2016. We have also organized conferences, FDP, guest lectures, webinars and a National Level Techno-Cultural Fest - “OxyTech 2K15”. The year was an amalgam of education and fun. It was an opportunity for the students to learn leading-edge technologies and also to exhibit their extreme talent in the field of IT. Oxy-Tech was envisioned as a platform to take students from the novice level to that of an exceptional initiative and to revitalize their identity, develop new perspectives and mild their character through discipline and passionate vision. The Conference also proved to be highly beneficial for the students to get valuable information about the latest advanced technological trends in Computing Applications. The academic results of the students have been overwhelming with 100% pass in the final year with Distinction and continuous University Ranks. Our young and smart budding talents won accolades in various colleges all over Bangalore. It is indeed my pleasure to lead a team of dedicated and energetic faculties who have toiled hard to make this year a grand success. We have succeeded in achieving many goals and look forward to accomplish many more challenges together.

OXYTECH 2K15

• The Department of MCA, The Oxford College of Engineering, Bommanahalli, organized a 2-Day, A national-level student’s convention and techno-cultural fest - “Oxy-Tech 2015”. It was a combination of education and fun. It was envisioned as a platform to take students from the novice level to that of an exceptional initiative and to revitalize their identity, develop new perspectives and mild their character through discipline and passionate vision. It was an opportunity for the students to learn leading-edge technologies, and also exhibit their extreme talent in the field of IT in front of a vast audience.

• There were a total of 11 events conducted, which included – Ice Breaker, Tech-Dumb , “Brain Scratch”-IT Quiz, Rock-IT“Kodez”-Coding & Debugging, Web Weaver, “Khoj”- Treasure Hunt, Kurukshetra-NFS Most Wanted & Kurukshetra-Counter-Strike, Mad- Ads and Gully Cricket.

• Oxy-Tech 2015 served as a nurturing ground for many new talents and ideas. And it is the constant effort of the MCA Department to grow and further develop this trend in the years to come.

1. Events Organized 2014

The department has organized both technical and non-technical events to motivate the students to show their talents. The following events were conducted during the year 2014.


  • NS3 Workshop

  • A 5-day Faculty Development Programme on “Next Generation Networks and Latest Simulation packages” was organized by MCA & ISE Departments from 21st to 25th July 2014. The Experts were from AVAYA Labs, L & T Infotech, 3G Networks, CDAC, IISC, and IIT, Bengaluru.

  • National Conference NCFCA-14

  • An One day Conference on MCA Student Academic Projects -2014 for VI Semester MCA Students National Conference on Futuristic Computing Applications, on 26th June 2014. NCFCA-14, an Annual event provides an unique opportunity for the students of 6th Semester MCA to showcase their projects. The students are given a unique platform to demonstrate their presentation skills and self learning capabilities which are vital for their professional growth.

  • National Level Technical Fest Oxy-Tech 2K14

  • A 2-Day, National Level Techno-Cultural Fest - “Oxy-Tech 2K14” on the 12nd and 13th of March 2014 in association with IETE and CSI. The fest attracted an enthralling crowd of overwhelming and enthusiastic students from all over India. The students of BE, MCA, M.Sc (IT/CSE), M.Tech and B.Sc and BCA from various esteemed institutions participated in the events of OXY-TECH 2K14. The overall number of colleges that enrolled for Oxy-Tech 2014 was 35 and approximately above 500 students took part in the various events. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Co-Founder of Infosys. The guest of honor was Mr.Amar Kumar Pandey, Additional Director General Of Police (ADGP), Internal security Division, Karnataka.





  • Wikimedia Research paper Competition

  • Intra-dept Research paper competition was conducted for MCA students on February 26th by Saritha S. 3 teams were selected for next level.

  • Inter-dept Research paper competition was conducted on March 17th by Wikimedia Research team.

  • Atindra Kumar Nath and Mahesh Kumar of IInd year has won second prize of 7000/- for their research paper “Erudition http2 and Leverage Browsers Speed”

  • GAYATHRI R and Deepak of IInd year has won third prize of 2500/- for their research paper “Preventing Concealed Data Implication Attacks On Social Network




  • Industry Invited Talks 2014

  • An Expert Lecture on “Essential Programming Ethics and JAVA in Industries” was organized on 27th September 2014 by Mr. Ghanshyam Dobariya, Software Engineer, Techjini, Bengaluru

  • The Students of Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) in collaboration with Bengaluru Traffic police screened a 17-minute Documentary Film “The Resilient Bengaluru Traffic Cop” on 25th September 2014. This documentary film carried a strong social message and made us more considerate towards the resilient guardians. Mr. Siddharth Baliga, Regional Manager, MAAC was honored.

  • A Webinar titled “IUCEE Virtual Academy: Virtualization – An Introduction”, on 23rd September by Mr. Ravindra Dastikop, SDM College of Engineering.

  • A Webinar titled “Virtual Academy: Bridging the gap between Industry and Academia for the future of Engineering Education”, on 19th September. The Presenter was Mr. Krishna Vedula, IUCEE.

    • Alumni association of the TOCE is registered with registrar of societies with registration no 214/2005-06 and Membership No. 1180. Mr. Chengappa M R, Alumni, Department of MCA is the secretary for TOCEAA. It conducts meetings and events every year. There are around 500 alumni as members of this association. The students take deep interest in reminiscing memorable experiences, sharing stories of success and organizing professional conferences and seminars.

    • A One day National Conference on Futuristic Computing Applications (NCFCA), on MCA Student Academic Projects 2014-2015 was conducted on 5th June 2015. NCFCA-15 has again added a feather to their cap and every semester all the students are getting an excellent opportunity to present their innovative ideas and brush up their skills. The Conference acts as a platform for the young minds to upgrade their knowledge and makes them industry ready.

    • An Expert Lecture on “GO Programming Language” was conducted on 7th February 2015. The Expert was Mr. Ankur Gupta, Team Lead, Invaria Tech, Bangalore.

QUALITY ENCHANCEMENT IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION (QEEE) :

Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) program enhances the quality of Indian engineering education and bridge the quantity-quality gap. Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) Program is sponsored by MHRD, Govt. of India through IIT Madras. TOCE, Bengaluru is one among the 100 colleges in the country to be chosen to be a part Pilot program. QEEE is Direct to Student interactive Program with the teacher. Students are to attend these live classes as the lectures are being delivered by IIT professors.

Live Classes - Live lectures delivered by IIT Faculty and projected in remote classrooms to all Students.

Tutorials - Enable tutorials by IIT Faculty, supervised by local instructors; provide more engaging experience to students via Live Chat/Video/White board.

Virtual Labs – Labs in virtual environment to provide practical learning experience to students and run locally at institutes at designated times.

Bridge Programs – Courses for students to bridge the gaps and enhance their all round development towards employability.

SPOKEN TUTORIAL-IIT BOMBAY:

TOCE has collaborated with Spoken Tutorial Project of IIT Bombay (reg-KAR- 00042), an initiative of National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India. The Spoken Tutorial is a free of cost, audio-visual training program funded by the Govt. of India that explains an activities performed by the computer. It is typically ten minutes long. TOCE Spoken Tutorial Resource Center conducted workshops on Linux, LaTeX, Scilab, PHP&MySQL, Python, Java, C/C++, Open FOAM, Blender, K-Turtle .After learning and practicing the tutorials the student becomes knowledgeable enough to take an online assessment test. Students who qualify in the test receive Spoken Tutorial Projects, IIT Bombay certificates.MCA department conducted many FOSS-Free open source software training workshops hosted by IIT Bombay through web telecast for the benefits of our students.


INTEL CENTER OF EXCELLENCE:

The Oxford College of Engineering entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with INTEL .Under this MoU a Center of Excellence has been setup in the college. The center conducts certification courses and training programs for the faculties and students of TOCE which been a huge contributing factors in the placement of our students in big IT Companies.

Pre-placement Training Programs

The department of MCA conducts a series of training and placement programs for the students. The various training program includes:

  • Technical trainings are given to the 3rd and 4th semester students (Minimum 40 hrs /Semester). Certification examinations (CCNA, ORACLE, JAVA, TESTING, MCP etc.) have been conducted after completion of successful training programs. Certificates awarded for the students.

  • Written and Spoken English classes are conducted for MCA 1st and 2nd semester students (Minimum 26 hrs/Semester) and Trained with Globarena Software. Students are also evaluated at the end of the semester.

  • Soft skills trainings are given to the students in all the semesters (Minimum 30 hrs/Semester).

  • Aptitude trainings are given to the 4th and 5th semester students (Minimum 30 hrs/Semester) and evaluated at the end of respective semester.

  • Extra Lab sessions (C, C++, JAVA, PHP labs etc.) and workshops are conducted for students and evaluated at the end of every semester with online tests.
