B.PHARM

A 4-year full time degree course affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, recognized by Government of Karnataka and approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), & Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi. The course is designed to impart thorough training in all theoretical and practical aspects of Pharmacy.

The Oxford College/Institute of Pharmacy was started in year 1992 under the flagship of Oxford Group of Institutions managed by Children's Education Society.

 
A pharmacist is a vital link between patient and Doctors. He formulates various drugs dosage forms like Capsules, Tablets, Syrups, Injectables etc., whether of Synthetic or natural origin. Development of drug involves sound knowledge at molecular level, its synthesis, designing, pharmacological and toxicological studies, analytical methods, post marketing survelliance and Clinical investigations converging with this field is three great technologies like Bio-technology, Information-technology and Nano-Technology.
   

Intake of Candidates

No. of student per academic year: 60 each in B.Pharm & 10 in M.Pharm (Pharmacognosy).

 

The Oxford College of Pharmacy is Affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Recognized by Government of Karnataka, Approved by A.I.C.T.E. and Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi.

Pharmacy curriculum at the graduate level in India offers a battery of subject expanded over a period of 4 years. Equal emphasis is given to subjects in Basic Sciences, Medical Sciences, Traditional and Advanced professional subjects and various ancillary subjects like Elementary Computer Knowledge, Pharmaceutical Management and Marketing Procedures.

 

Training Period

Every candidate shall undergo practical training in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing House for a period of not less than one hundred and fifty hours that need to be covered in not less than 45 days after completing the III year B.Pharm or IV year B.Pharm Course.

 
Attendance

Students shall put up a minimum of 80% attendance in Theory classes and a minimum of 90% attendance in Practical classes in order to qualify themselves to write the University examinations.

Internal Assessment

  1. THEORY:
     
    Three Sessional examination (evenly spaced) will be conducted during the academic year. The average marks of best two examinations will be computed out of a maximum of 20 marks and will be considered as the Sessional award in THEORY.
     
  2. PRACTICALS:
     
    Students are expected to perform the number of experiments listed in respective syllabus. The number of experiments are also listed. Marks will be awarded out of a maximum of 10 to each of the practical exercise and an average of those will be computed out of a maximum of 10 marks. In addition, three practical sessional examinations evenly spread during each academic year shall be conducted. The average marks of the best two practical examinations shall be computed out of a maximum of 20 marks. A total of 30 marks shall constitute the sessional award in practical. While awarding the sessional marks for practical experiments, the following consideration will be taken into account.
    1. Preparation of the candidate.
    2. Manipulative skill
    3. Results of the experiment
    4. Knowledge of the experiment
    5. Viva-voce pertaining to the experiments only.

M.PHARM

Duration of the Course

  • Total 2 years (24 months) from the commencement of the academic term.
  • Part - I for 12 months from the commencement of academic term.
  • Part - II for 12 months.
  • At the end of Part - I there shall be an University examination.
  • At the end of Part - II the candidate shall submit a dissertation on the topic approved by the University.

M.PHARM (Pharmacognosy)

Part - I - [12 months] Consists of 4 theory papers and 4 practical papers.
Part - I - There shall be three specialized subjects in addition to a common subject.

  • Modern Pharmaceutical Analysis
  • Advanced Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry
  • Industrial Pharmacognosy
  • Medicinal plant Biotechnology

Part - II - Project and Dissertation will be spread over for 12 months.

Attendance

  1. Candidate pursuing M.Pharm course shall study in the concerned department of the institution for the entire period as a full time student. No candidate is permitted to work in any laboratory/college/industry/pharmacy, etc., while studying postgraduate course. No candidate should join any other course of study or appear for any other examination conducted by this University or any other university in India or abroad during the period of registration.
  2. Every student shall attend symposia, seminars, conferences, journal review meetings and lectures during each year as prescribed by the department/college/university and not absent himself/herself without valid reason.
  3. Candidate who has put in a minimum of 80% of attendance in the theory and practical assignments separately shall be permitted to appear for M.Pharm Part - I examination.
  4. Candidate who has put in a minimum of 80% of attendance in M.Pharm Part - II shall only be eligible to submit the dissertation.
  5. Any student who fails to complete the course in the manner stated above shall not be permitted to appear for the University Examinations.

Examination

There shall be an examination for M.Pharm Part-I at the end of one academic year. For M.Pharm Part-II, the examination shall be an evaluation of dissertation and Viva-Voce at the end of twelve months (one year) after commencement of M.Pharm Part-II course.

Scheme of Examination:

A. Sessional Examination:

There shall be minimum of two sessional examinations in each subject of specialization conducted by the colleges at regular interval at the end of First term and Second term respectively both in theory and in practical which include seminars.

The sessional marks shall be awarded out of a minimum of 50 for theory and practical as follows:

B. University Examination (M.Pharm Part - I):

There shall be two university examinations annually conducted at an interval of not less than four months. There shall be four theory papers in the University Examination.

C. Criteria for Pass:

a. M.Pharm Part - I

A candidate who secures 50% of marks in each subject in theory and practical separately including sessional marks and university examination marks together shall be declared to have passed in M.Pharm part I examination, provided the candidate secures a minimum of 40% marks (excluding sessionals) in theory and practical separately. Candidate, who fails in theory or practical exam in a subject shall appear for both theory and practical in the subsequent examination ni that subject.

Those candidates who fail in one or more subjects shall have to appear only in the Subjects so failed, in the subsequent examinations.

b. M.Pharm Part - II

DISSERTATION

  1. Every candidate pursuing M.Pharm course is required to carryout work on a selected research project under the guidance of a recognized postgraduate teacher. The results of such a work shall be submitted in the form of a dissertation.
  2. The dissertation is aimed to train a postgraduate student in research methods and techniques. It includes identification of the problem, formulation of a hypothesis, review of literature, getting acquainted with recent advances, designing of a research study, collection of data, critical analysis and comparison of results and drawing conclusions.

    Viva-Voce Examination:
  3. The Viva-Voce examination shall aim at assessing the depth of knowledge, logical reasoning, confidence and oral communication skills.

    The Viva-Voce examination shall be held after the submission of disseration. If any candidate fails to submit the dissertation on or before the date prescribed, his/her Viva-Voce shall be conducted during the subsequent examination which shall not be earlier than six months from the date fixed in teh first instance.

    Distribution of Marks for M.Pharm Part - II Examination:

    Total - 200 Marks, Dissertation-150 marks, Viva-Voce-50 marks.

    The dissertation and viva-voce shall be valued, by the examiners together appointed by the University.

    Scheme of Evaluation of M.Pharm Dissertation

    1. Literature Review 30 Marks
    2. Materials and Methods 60 Marks
    2. Result, Discussion and conclusion 60 Marks
      Total 150 Marks

    Minimum Marks for Passing M.Pharm Part - II.

    The minimum marks for pass in M.Pharm Part II shall be 50% of the marks of disseration and viva-voce and an aggregate of 100 marks out of 200 marks.
