General Information
Periodontium literally means "around the tooth." Diseases originating in and affecting the function of the periodontium are called periodontal diseases. The science that deals with the structures and behaviour of the periodontium in health and disease is called periodontology, and the branch of dentistry concerned with prevention and treatment of periodontal disease is termed periodontics or periodontia.
The department of Periodontics is situated on the second floor of the western wing of the college housed in a massive construction measuring more than 13,100 sq.ft. The department has separate U.G.Clinic, P.G.Clinic, Seminar hall, sterilization room, patient waiting area, chambers for teaching staff and so on.
The faculty comprises of experienced teachers, with post-graduate qualifications, all working on full time and permanent basis. Besides a Professor and head of department, there are two other professors, one Associate Professor, one Readers and four Senior Lecturers making the teaching staff.
The department is well equipped with more than 50 dental chairs and units and all required equipments, instruments and materials.
The department envisages training and exposing the students to all aspects of periodontics besides encouraging research. The post-graduate training programme includes training students in clinical, academic and research aspects with added impetus on epidemiology community health and management. A comprehensive and meticulous curriculum has been drawn for under-graduates interns and post-graduate training based on the recommendation of both R.G.U.H.S, Dental Council of India Society of Periodontology.
