General Nursing and Midwifery is a diploma course
of three years duration. The coursed is recognized
by the Government of Karnataka, Karnataka Nursing
Council (KNC) and Indian Nursing Council (INC),
New Delhi. It includes two year’ theory
and practice in General Nursing and one-year Community
Heath Nursing and Midwifery.
The Course Objectives
• To acquire knowledge and develop skills
and attitude necessary for planning and carrying
out comprehensive nursing care for sick persons
of all age groups in the hospital or community.
• To acquire knowledge and understanding
of the basic principles underlying the techniques
and methods used in Nursing.
• To develop the ability to think and act
independently and to accept responsibility as
an individual, a nurse and a citizen.
• To develop the ability to teach people
sick / well, the measures which contribute to
total health.
• To develop the ability to co-operate with
others in hospital and community, in the care
of the sick, prevention of diseases and promotion
of health.
• To acquire sufficient understanding and
ability to supervise and guide auxiliary personnel,
who are parts of the nursing team.
• To demonstrate skills in the use of problem
solving methods in nursing practice.
• To demonstrate understanding of, and commitment
to professional behaviour.
• To carry out the above in the true spirit
of service to fellow human & be committed
to welfare of the country.
Eligibility
• Admission is open to candidates from all
parts of Indian and even outside countries.
• All those who passed PUC / intermediate
/ 10+2 / equivalent examination.
(Preferably with science)
• Candidate should be single, of good health
and moral character.
• The minimum age for entrance is completion
of 17 years as on 1st September of the year of
admission. The upper age limit is 35 years.
• Candidates are admitted once in a year
in the month of September.
• Candidates should apply in the prescribed
application form.
• Application form and the prospectus can
obtain from the Admission Office, on payment of
the prescribed fees.

Selected candidates should submit the completed
application form. The completed application form
shall accompany the following originals along
with 2 sets of photocopies of originals.

Membership-Student Nurses Association
(SNA)
All the student shall enroll themselves as member
of the Student Nurse Association.
The programme offered at Indian College of Nursing
leading to B.Sc. in Nursing is a 4-years full
time degree course recognized by the Government
of Karnataka, Affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University
of Health Science, Bangalore. The B.Sc. programme
is designed to provide a balanced professional
and general education thereby preparing students
to become top-notch professionals and nursing
practitioners who would become self-directing
and responsible citizens.
Graduate of the programme would be thoroughly
prepared to take up positions in community and
institutional nursing services and can continue
post graduates studies in nursing.

and evaluate nursing care for patients / clients.
• To demonstrate competency in the skill
and techniques of nursing care.

abilities in teaching, management, interpersonal

Course Description
Duration-4 years
This course is designed to prepare nursing graduates
develop specialized knowledge, skills and desirable
attitudes, independent decision making and assuming
responsibility for providing comprehensive care.
Eligibility
The candidate seeking admission to the B.Sc. in
Nursing should meet following criteria.
• The minimum age for admission is 17 years.
• He should have passed two years’
Pre-University examination of Karnataka or equivalent
examination as prescribed by Rajiv Gandhi University
of Health Science, Bangalore, with Science subjects
viz. Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
• He should have obtained at least 45% of
the total marks in science subjects of the qualifying
examinations.
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST and having
obtained 40% of the total marks in the science
subjects are also eligible.

Selected candidates should submit the following
completed application forms. The completed application
form shall accompany the following originals along
with 2 sets of photocopies of originals.
• Mark-list of PUC /10+2 or any other equivalent
examination.

Training Methodology
The course offers both theory and practical sessions
as per the RGUHS Ordinance.
The Classes are handled by well-trained experienced
teachers. Clinical experience is given in varied
situations more than the minimum requirement under
the close supervision and guidance of experienced
teachers in various health settings.
Examination
A minimum of 80% attendance is required in theory
and practicals in each subject. Each student must
have a certificate of satisfactory attendance,
progress and conduct from the Principal to be
eligible for admission to university examinations.
There will be an internal assessment which follows
broadly the principle enunciated by the University
in each subjects for which 20% of the marks are
set apart and this will be added to marks scored
in the final examinations conducted by the University.
