IPR & Product development:

  • The department has successfully filed a domestic paten on “Patent on Method & System for Degradation of Oil using Green Technology has been filed successfully (Application No. 20171042005)”.
  • The department successfully developed a Bioremediation product PETROZAP with financial assistance under BIRAC (BT/AIR0558/PACE-15/18). It is a formulation consisting of a unique, potential microbe capable of degrading various toxic petroleum hydrocarbons (up-to 98% within 21 days of incubation) into non toxic carbon dioxide and water.

Salient Feature of Petrozap

  • The PETROZAP-L is a patented product studied for their efficacy of hydrocarbon degradation under laboratory condition using heavy crude oil under various conditions.
  • The parameters viz., Effect of inoculum size, temperature, salinity, incubation time and pH, on %TPH degradation, BOD, COD, CFU, Biomass generation is studied
  • The % TPH removal efficiency of the PETROZAP is 93.47 %, 97.53 %, 98.51%, 98.97 % and 99.08% at 5th day, 10th day, 15th day, 20th day and 25th day respectively.

The rate of degradation/hydrocarbon utilization capability of  PETROZAP in crude oil by 0.396 mg.kg-1d-1, 0.122 mg.kg-1d-1, 0.072 mg.kg-1d-1, 0.076 mg.kg-1d-1and 0.0653 mg.kg-1d-1at 5th day, 10th day, 15th day, 20th day and 25th day respectively.
